Kindle Temporarily Unavailable on Amazon India Website, Company Says It’s a Temporary Issue

Karnataka News

Kindle, a product that has become synonymous with Amazon, has mysteriously disappeared from the Amazon India website. A quick search now only yields accessories, leaving the e-reader devices completely absent from the listings. This has caused confusion and raised concerns among devoted book lovers and tech enthusiasts in India who have long relied on Kindle for their reading needs, as it is one of the most popular e-readers in the market.

Interestingly, you can still find Kindles at some offline retailers, such as Reliance Digital, although industry insiders speculate that these may simply be leftover stock, with no new inventory being replenished or restocked by Amazon. This lack of fresh stock has prompted a great deal of speculation and concern regarding the long-term availability of Kindle in India, raising questions about whether the device will continue to be sold in the country or if it will be phased out entirely. The uncertainty has left many potential buyers wondering about the future of Kindle in the Indian market and whether Amazon has plans to reintroduce the e-reader in the near future.

Globally, Amazon has been revamping its Kindle lineup, with the company recently launching four new models featuring vibrant color displays—a first for the Kindle series. Typically, Amazon doesn’t take long to introduce new models to the Indian market, but this time, the situation seems to be different. What’s more, Amazon has even removed previous-generation Kindle models from its Indian website—something it has never done before. Historically, older Kindle models remained available even after the launch of newer versions. This unusual move has led to increased speculation that Amazon may be reconsidering or recalibrating its Kindle strategy in India, potentially due to local market conditions, competition, or other logistical challenges.

The last Kindle released in India was in 2022—an updated version of the entry-level model initially launched in 2019, priced at Rs 9,999. Since then, there has been complete silence on any new Kindle launches, leaving Indian Kindle fans frustrated as other international markets enjoy the latest models and features. Indian consumers are now left wondering if the beloved Kindle e-reader has been quietly sidelined in the country while other regions continue to benefit from the newest technology and upgrades.

When India Today Tech reached out to Amazon for clarification on the matter, the company remained tight-lipped and offered limited details. While Amazon refused to provide further elaboration on the specific reasons behind the shortage, it did issue an official statement acknowledging the issue and indicating that the current Kindle shortage in India is a temporary situation. The statement reassured customers, suggesting that the absence of Kindles on the Indian website is not permanent and that the company is working on resolving the issue, though it did not offer any specifics regarding a timeline for restocking or new releases.

“We regret that Kindle e-readers are temporarily unavailable. Please keep an eye on our Amazon.in page for any updates regarding Kindle availability. Thank you for your understanding,” an Amazon India spokesperson said. This statement suggests that the absence of Kindles from the Indian website might not be permanent, although Amazon did not provide a specific timeline for when they might be restocked or available again.

For now, those in the market for a Kindle may need to explore offline retailers, or they could look into international shipping options—though both may come with their own set of challenges such as higher shipping costs and longer delivery times. Alternatively, e-readers from other brands, like Kobo and Onyx, could be worth considering if they are available at competitive prices and with favorable shipping terms.
