Karnataka News
A young Chinese businessman has won a staggering lottery prize of $96 million (approximately Rs 795 crore), marking the largest lottery win in the country’s history. Despite the monumental win, the lottery company has chosen not to disclose the winner’s identity publicly. According to the established regulations, the winner is eligible to receive a payout of 680 million yuan (USD 96 million). This prize sets a new record for the highest lottery amount ever won in China, solidifying the significance of the victory.

A 28-year-old man from Guizhou province in southwestern China has won the country’s largest-ever lottery jackpot, taking home 680 million yuan (USD 96 million or Rs 795 crore). According to a report by the South China Morning Post, the young businessman purchased 133 lottery tickets at two yuan each, all containing the same set of seven numbers. Each ticket won him 5.16 million yuan (USD 725,000), as reported by a local government television station.
The man, whose identity remains undisclosed, was so overwhelmed by the news that he had difficulty sleeping. He shared that, at first, he couldn’t believe the results and double-checked them multiple times before accepting that he had won. On February 7, he arrived at the Provincial Welfare Lottery Center to claim his winnings.
According to Chinese tax regulations, the lottery winner must pay 20% of his prize as tax. The man, who runs a small business in Anshun City, explained that he had studied previous lottery trends, combining recurring numbers with his own lucky number to place his bet. He added that he looks forward to sharing the good news with his family during the winter festival holidays.
His lottery win of 680 million yuan broke China’s previous record of 570 million yuan (USD 81 million), set in 2012 by a man from Beijing. In a more recent case, in December last year, a man from Jiangxi province in eastern China spent 100,000 yuan on lottery tickets and won 200 million yuan.
Another lottery incident sparked controversy in 2022 when a man from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region won 218 million yuan (USD 40 million) but chose not to inform his wife and children, fearing they would become envious and stop working hard, The Post reported.
Jackpot of Rs 33 crore won using children’s birthday numbers; Generous winner shares the fortune with 19 people
In the Big Ticket Abu Dhabi Lucky Draw, Rajeev Arikkatta, an Indian-origin man based in the UAE, won a staggering jackpot of Rs 33 crore. Rajeev’s winning numbers were based on his two children’s birthdays. Instead of keeping the prize to himself, he made the selfless decision to share the entire amount equally with all 19 members of his group, showing remarkable generosity.

Despite winning a lottery jackpot of Rs 33 crore, an Indian-origin man named Rajeev Arikkatt, living in an Arab country, chose to share his fortune with his friends and colleagues. Rajeev won the Big Ticket Abu Dhabi Weekly Draw, earning a jackpot of 15 million dirhams (approximately Rs 33 crore). Along with the grand prize, he also received an extra ticket free of charge for the purchased tickets. This was Rajeev’s first-ever lottery win. He works in an architecture company and decided to distribute his winnings among his group.
The winning ticket, number 037130, was special as it contained the birth dates of Rajeev’s two children, ages five and eight. The numbers 7 and 13, representing his children’s birthdays, turned out to be his lucky charm in securing the jackpot.
This isn’t the first time Rajeev experimented with lottery numbers using his children’s birth dates. In a similar attempt two months ago, he came close to winning but narrowly missed the prize.
Honest Rajeev Shares His Winnings with 19 Others
Rajeev Arikkatta did not purchase the lottery ticket solely for himself. He belongs to a group that includes people from various walks of life, such as office assistants and laborers. Together, they pooled resources to buy two lottery tickets, with Rajeev and his wife contributing on behalf of the group. Additionally, they received four free tickets from Big Ticket.
Among these free tickets, one held the jackpot prize of Rs 33 crore. Rajeev, committed to fairness, decided to share the winnings equally among all 19 members of the group. Many of these individuals are from middle-class families, and this windfall could significantly improve their lives. Despite winning such a large sum, Rajeev chose to act selflessly by sharing his good fortune with others.
