Spotify Starts Free Streaming Option in South Korea
Spotify launched its services in South Korea in 2021. Recently, the platform announced that its free music and podcast option is now available in the country. This expansion is part of Spotify’s strategy to broaden its audience base and enhance user engagement in the South Korean market.
The streaming giant operates on a freemium business model, offering users a free, ad-supported service and an unlimited premium subscription option. This approach allows listeners to choose between a limited, ad-supported experience or a premium experience without interruptions.
By introducing the free service in South Korea, Spotify aims to better connect global audiences with Korean music, including the hugely popular K-pop genre. This initiative reflects Spotify’s commitment to promoting diverse musical talents and making a broader range of content accessible to listeners worldwide.
Spotify Expands Free Access in South Korea, Boosting User Engagement and Advertiser Appeal
Users in South Korea can now sign up for a free Spotify account, granting them access to playlists, podcasts, and daily mixes, among other features. They also have the option to upgrade to a premium account for on-demand, ad-free music.
According to Spotify, brands advertising on the platform’s free tier can effectively reach their audience. Spotify ads capture twice as much attention as social media platforms globally. This makes the free service an attractive option for both users and advertisers.
Since its launch in South Korea in 2021, Spotify has seen significant engagement, with the average monthly streams of local artists surpassing 5.8 billion. This growth highlights Spotify’s increasing popularity among South Korean listeners and its role in promoting the country’s vibrant music scene.
